 Scaredy Cat Reviews

This week I perused the YA section at the local library where I tutor. There was no genrefication happening in this space at all. 😐 I know not all libraries are created equal but locating Horror/ Mystery books was a bit tricky here. One takeaway though is that in some cases, you can judge a book by it's cover. The horror books have fonts and cover styles that scream "I'm scary. Read me if you enjoy your heart in your throat".

Their Vicious Games
Joelle Wellington

Adina Walker is blacklisted from all Ivy League colleges due to a fight at her prep school.
She must compete in The Finish to regain her future.
"The Finish's stakes aren't just make-or-break...they're life-and-death".

This book grasped my attention with the boarding school themes. I've always been intrigued by that subculture. Add in a little Hunger Games type- setting and I think this is a horror book I could actually handle. As long as I read it in the daytime!

Promise Boys
Nick Brooks
Three boys at the Urban Promise Prep School must investigate their principal's death.
They must work together to track down the killer.

Did I mention I like books about prep/boarding schools? The idea of kids living on
their own-ish and navigating a lifestyle different from home. Add in a murder and I'm
guessing this will be a real page turner!

The Killing Code
Ellie Marney

"The Killing Code" by Ellie Marney is a historical thriller set during World War II,
where a brilliant young codebreaker uncovers a deadly conspiracy that puts her life and
those she loves at risk

This book is described as "The Enigma Game" meets "Last Night at the Telegraph Club".
This sounds perfectly up my alley! I am not a horror person, but these comparisons and the
WW2 backdrop have this added to by TBR!
